Pension trustee services

Trust-based occupational pension schemes continue to face significant challenges. Risk issues include:

  • Funding problems in Defined Benefit schemes
  • Weak employer’s covenant
  • Investments needing constant reviews
  • Adherence to The Pensions Regulator’s Codes of Practice

As a result, the role of a pension scheme trustee involves great responsibility and requires a minimum standard of technical knowledge and understanding.

For this reason, some schemes want to appoint an Independent Trustee.

An independent, professional trustee can be helpful to an existing board of trustees, not least because they ease the pressure on lay trustees.

SBJ Professional Trustees Ltd (SBJPT) provides an independent and professional trusteeship service to trust-based pension schemes. We are on The Pensions Regulator’s Trustee Register and are members of the PMI Trustee Group and the Independent Pension Trustee Group.

Our appointment is usually as co-trustee, working alongside other individual trustees. We will guide and assist non-professional trustees, providing professional, outside support for those in this demanding role.

SBJPT’s trusteeship service is subject to our own rigorous internal procedures and controls. Our trustee representatives have a wealth of experience in all areas of trust-based pension schemes.

We also run regular trustee training courses, from basic to advanced, including preparation for the PMI Trusteeship Award. Our long-term involvement with company pension schemes means that we are well placed to train trustees and in-house pensions staff.
