How to build your portfolio online

Building your own portfolio on Webfund is straightforward. Instructions are shown below to help you get started.

  1. Once you have entered Webfund, you will need to register your details. To do this, go to Financial Tools, My Portfolio, and follow the registration instructions. Please note you will need to enter a valid e-mail address for your registration to be complete.
  2. When you have finished your registration, you will be logged in. To add your first holding, click on 'add new item'.
  3. You will need to choose the company in which you have purchased units. For shares, you can enter the company name in the search box if you don't know the stock (EPIC) code. If there is only one search result, you will be taken to the next page; otherwise, the results will be shown in the drop-down box below.
  4. Next, you need to select the number of units you have purchased. The current unit price will be shown, but you can change this if you bought the units on a different date (or for a different price). When you are done, click on 'click here to add to portfolio'
  5. You will then be taken to an editable view of your portfolio. You can make changes to your entry, or make more entries.
  6. When you have finished constructing your portfolio, click on 'Display Mode' in the Portfolio Tool Control Panel. This will display your entered portfolio details, together with a profit & loss summary.
  7. If you want to add a separate portfolio (which will still be accessible from your same login details) click on 'add new portfolio' in the Portfolio Options box, give it a name, and follow the same steps above. You can switch between portfolios by clicking on the portfolio name, in the Portfolio Selection menu on the left side of the page.

To research the performance of your holdings, simply click on the company or fund name. You will then be presented with a chart showing the performance over the last twelve months, as well as links to news on that company. You can use the 'charting options' to compare your holding to the FTSE 100, Dow Jones, Hang Seng Indices, or any other funds you wish to choose.
